Hudson and Smith
My cousin Philip and I are researching family name Hudson, we belive our ancestors were a Thomas Hudson and Ellen smith.
Thomas born in 1758 at carleton in craven and also christened in carlton in craven on 30-4-1758.
They were married in marton in craven on 23.10.1781.
One of their children, Christopher, is my GGG grandfather christopher born 1803-1865.born in marton in craven, married margaret wood in 1825. subsequently, in 1848, lived at a house called 'Rushbank' on the Broughton estate. has anyone any information on them please which may help to travel back in time to 1700 to locate Thomas's father John Hudson?
Many thanks to anyone who takes time to read this can assist with our family history. We cannot fathom out why Christopher lived at Rushbank, when we believe he was not employed by the Tempest family who are the owners of the broughton estate (ledgers/paying in rent books checked and verified)..any information where they worked etc would assist, and also where Thomas and Ellen were buried and dates of death.
We believe Thomas's father, a John Hudson c.1700 married a margaret dixon also c.1700 -would like further inf on these as well. Thankyou so much for your time.
the story is unfolding into a lovely story, as we have discovered one
of the ancestors, thomas hudson, born 1830 (christophers son)emigrated
to NZ where he met his 2nd (we believe) wife, charlotte, this info is
confirmed. We would like to trace his previous wife, as he became
widowed, and confirm he left no children behind, he travelled to
glasgow from yorkshire, embarked the ss resolute, met charlotte (who's
sister jessie was aboard with her family also, sadly, her 7 month old
daughter died short time into the trip)... I would like to piece it all together, and go back as far as possible.
